The spectrum

Sunlight is more than UVB and UVA.

An SPF number describes one thing only: how well a product handles UVB. The UVA seal covers a second. Daylight arrives with considerably more than two kinds of energy, and the parts nobody is required to test for are where a good deal of visible ageing happens.

Required by law:

UVB + UVA only

Our filter system covers:

UVB, UVA II, UVA I and past 400 nm into blue light

Antioxidants + light-scattering particles

Where filters stop, chemistry takes over: every formula carries antioxidants, and Glow Sense adds a mica complex that scatters light at the surface.

A sunscreen can be fully compliant — SPF 50, UVA seal — and still do nothing measurable above 400 nm. Our face formulas keep going: where filters run out, antioxidants and light-scattering particles take over.

The filter system

Nine filters, chosen one at a time.

No single UV filter covers the spectrum well on its own. Each one absorbs strongly in a narrow band and falls away either side of it, so broad protection is a matter of choosing filters whose curves overlap — and of using efficient ones, so the total filter load stays low enough for the texture to survive.

The six-filter system used in Aqua Sense, Even Sense and Glow Sense. Schematic: curve shapes are illustrative, peak positions reflect each filter’s published absorption maximum. Note where the Tinosorb A2B curve is still working after the 400 nm line — which is roughly where most sunscreens have finished.

The one that changes things

UVA II

blue light

Tris-Biphenyl Triazine (nano)

Tinosorb® A2B

Developed by BASF · in Aqua Sense, Even Sense and Glow Sense

The newest UV filter to reach the market, and why our fluids reach further than a standard SPF 50. It closes the UVA II gap (320–340 nm, sun spots and melasma) and keeps absorbing past 400 nm into blue light — and it scatters light physically as well as absorbing it chemically.

Pink Poppy Flowers

UVA I

UVA I

DIETHYLAMINO HYDROXYBENZOYL HEXYL BENZOATE

Uvinul® A Plus

Long-wave UVA absorber peaking at 354 nm — wrinkles, firmness, pigmentation, and the rays that pass through window glass.

In all five formulas

UVB

UVA I

ETHYLHEXYL TRIAZONE

Uvinul® T 150

One of the most efficient UVB absorbers available — less filter needed in the formula, part of how SPF 50 ends up feeling like a fluid.

In all five formulas

UVB

UVA I

DIETHYLHEXYL BUTAMIDO TRIAZONE

Uvasorb® HEB

Highly photostable UVB filter — the protection you applied at 9am is still the protection you have at noon.

In all five formulas

UVB

UVA I

ETHYLHEXYL SALICYLATE

EHS

Short-wave UVB absorber that also dissolves the crystalline filters around it, keeping the texture fluid instead of waxy.

In all four face formulas

UVB

MINERAL

POLYSILICONE-15 · TITANIUM DIOXIDE (NANO)

Parsol® SLX + TiO2

A gentler pairing for reactive skin: a polymeric filter that stays on the surface by size, combined with mineral titanium dioxide.

In Transparent Sense SPF 50+

UVB

UVA I

ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE

Uvinul® MC 80

Classic UVB absorber, used only in the body spray where a low-viscosity, fast-drying film matters most.

In Invisible Sense Spray SPF 50+

On “nano”

Nano is smaller than a particle. It is still far too big for skin.

EU law requires any ingredient with particles under 100 nanometres to carry the “(nano)” label. That’s a labelling threshold, not a safety verdict — what actually decides whether something can enter skin is molecular weight, and the barrier’s practical limit sits at roughly 500 Daltons.

Tinosorb A2B, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide all weigh well above that line, nano-labelled or not. So they sit on the surface, absorb and scatter light from there, and stay put until washed off — exactly where a filter is supposed to be.

UV reflects off the surface layer — nothing above 500 Da gets past it.

Pro-Layer Technology

skincare application soft lighting ritual.png

Why most sunscreens pill, and ours doesn’t.

Pilling isn’t over-application. It’s an unbonded film shearing apart under friction. Our formulas bond to the skin instead of sitting on top of it.

image 422.png

Ordinary sunscreen

Unbonded film, gaps, UV reaches skin

image 423.png

Pro-Layer Technology

Bonded film, UV reflected at the surface

Same skin, different film. Ordinary sunscreen sits unbonded and breaks open under friction; Pro-Layer Technology bonds into one continuous layer that UV can’t get past.

No pilling

The layers bond instead of rolling up into threads under a fingertip or a brush.

No clogging

Bonded, not smothered. All face formulas are tested non-comedogenic.

Ideal makeup base

A continuous, even surface for foundation to grip — so it goes on like primer.

Pro-Layer Technology is in every Skinvisibles face formula: Aqua Sense, Even Sense, Glow Sense, Transparent Sense and UV Serum.

Wet-Skin Technology

Sunscreen that works on skin still wet from the sea.

A conventional sunscreen beads up on wet skin, leaving gaps of unprotected skin right when you need cover most. Wet-Skin Technology reformulates the carrier to spread through surface water instead of fighting it, closing into one continuous transparent film with no drying-off wait.

Aqua Sense SPF 50

HySilk® hyaluronic acid

A low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid small enough to act rather than just sit on the surface. In vivo testing found three separate effects.

−25%

sebum production, 6 weeks

−43%

wrinkle depth, 6 weeks

  • Raises antioxidant enzyme activity against oxidative stress

  • Supports the skin microbiome and natural desquamation

  • Anti-pollution and anti-inflammatory effect

  • Actively improves barrier function, not only water content

Sebum: 0.1% HySilk in emulsion, cheek, 6 volunteers, sebumeter. Wrinkles: 0.2%, crow's feet area, 30 volunteers, 3D LiveViz camera. Hydration: 0.025%, inner forearm, 8 volunteers, CM825 corneometer.

Transparent.png

Transparent Sense SPF 50+

Centella Asiatica

Chosen for dry and reactive skin, and one of the most thoroughly published botanicals in dermatology. Four decades of peer-reviewed work sit behind it.

  • Stimulates collagen and fibronectin synthesis in skin cells, confirmed across three independent studies (Tenni et al. 1988 · Incandela et al. 2001 · Bonte et al. 1995)

  • Demonstrated antioxidant and antibacterial activity (Abdul Hamid et al. 2002 · Jagtap et al. 2009)

  • With vitamin C, reduces wrinkles and improves sun-aged skin (Haftek, Experimental Dermatology, 2008)

Glow.png

Glow Sense SPF 50

Mica, sourced properly

The glow in Glow Sense comes from two naturally occurring mica minerals that scatter light at the skin's surface — a physical effect, not a pigment or a shimmer coating.

  • Supplied by Merck, whose mica supply chain is publicly documented and audited

  • Sourced under a standing commitment against child labour in mica mining

  • Doubles as a light-scattering layer alongside the UV filter system
